Helping Out a Yoga Teacher- A Lesson on Multiplication

This Fall we had the opportunity to help out a local yoga instructor, Susan Malandra, with a big predicament she was having. She used Facetime to ask the class to please help her figure out how to arrange 12 and 24 yoga mats.  The class stepped up to the challenge and immediately began making arrays to show all of the possible combinations of 12 and 24.  Next, they had to communicate back to Mrs. Malandra how the yoga mats could look in her studio.

They used paper, scissors, crayons, the Movenote app and the Camera app on the Sony Xperia Z to complete their project. I produced the movie using WeVideo and embedded into our Google Site.

Map Projects

We are wrapping up a study of Map/Globe Skills and the class was asked to teach others about Geography using the Xperia tablets.  After learning about the seven continents, the five oceans, the Equator, Northern Hemisphere, and Southern Hemisphere, they had to then apply what they have learned about the various applications on the Xperia.  Here is a showcase of their final projects.

The day I got my first-ever Puppy

   

When I see poodles reminds of when I got my first puppy.It started in the spring at Long Island at the breakfast table I was so excited because maybe I was getting...My first puppy!!A couple hours later I got dressed and got in the car to go to the pet shop.I couldn't wait,maybe I can get a puppy.When we got there I was jumping up and down with joy.We got inside and we had to look at the puppies first.I felt like buying all of them!!A couple of dogs were to bid some of them were to loudbut this one was just right.There was this room you bring the dog in to get to know it and its reaction was perfect. It was a female but my dad said no it was too expensive.I felt like throwing a tantrum.When we got home I went to my bed I cried intill I got hungry Then my dad said he is going to the gas station which was strange because the tank was full oh well I said and I went to the kitchen to eat mac and chesee. I hid when my got home I hid because I was angry at him but he said he had a suprise for me so. He showed me what was what in his hand and it was a Puppy!!!So that was the day I got my first-ever puppy

When I went to the water park I got to go alone on my own tube on the lazy river and the slides.There was a slide where you have to go on your belly.I was screaming so loud. I thought I was going to slip like a ice cube. It was so fun. Their was a ride like a tornado but it was small. It was contended to a slide. I was about to go upside down. Their were these white slides we only had to go on the left because the right one was closed. So we could not to get on it. Me and Jasmine went together and Jasmine and my dad, and then me and my dad because there were only two people got to go on a tube. My mom did not go on the rides because she was dizzy. When me my dad and Jasmine we went on the blue and orange slides. My mom went in the hot tub after the slide we went in the hot tub my dad said, "Who wants to go on the slide again?" I went on to give him company. Then we went on the orange slide when we were about to go on the stairs Jasmine came she went on the slide. When we were about to eat. I went on a slide that was not in the water it was nine feet deep.I went on but Jasmine did not. After we ate lunch we went to our locker so we could take off our water shoes but we did not leave.  We went to the kid water play round and did the lazy river 3 times. We had a race me and my dad won. I was pushing my dad. There were blow ups and water splashed on me and my dad's belly.  It felt like you were getting a massage and then we left the water park I had lots of fun.

My Playdate With MK by AM

     My teacher told me to write down some memory moments. Then I remembered when MK and I  had an awesome playdate.  

     It all started when... MK came over.  MK brought some things over: her iPod, journal, and flashlight.

    MK and I were thinking of something to do when we both got the same idea at the same time! We though to build a fort.  We got a lot of covers, pillows, and a chair.  We tilted it forwards so that would be the back.  When we put everything together MK and I though it looked great, we both loved it.  When MK and I took a peek inside it looked AWESOME.  When we fully went inside it was like Puffy Pillow Land.  We both said at the same time, "Sweet!"  

    Our pillow land fell down a few times, but we fixed it immediately.  MK said, "Let's watch Spy Kids 4."  So we got out my DVD player and watched the movie.  It was about these two kids that become spies. 

    When MK and I were about half-way through, we went outside to get some fresh air.  We ate lunch. We drove my dad's golf cart with my dog Leo.  My mom drove us around the area. Then we came back and watched the rest of the movie. It was a good movie. After, MK and I climbed a tree in my backyard. Then MK's dad came. But we had an awesome time!

I just got home.I opened the door and there was my dog Martha wagging her tail. I remember when I first got Martha.  On that morning I was awoken  by something in the kitchen. I jumped out of my cozy bed and put on my slippers. My slippers are pink,frilly,have sparkle design they also look like boots. I looked out the window,the sun sparkled like a diamond. When I got downstairs I saw a crate with a leash, collar, treats and some toys. I only ate a little because I was excited. But I forgot that I have karate on Saturdays so I found myself in the dojo. All I wanted was to get out of there! Finally class was over and mom took me and my brother home to change. Once we where home I ran to my room and pulled out of my drawer  a tanktop and pants and finally mom said, "It is time to go!"  So I jumped in the car and yelled, "Come on let's go!" They got into the car and my dad started to drive. The ride was slow so I waited and waited and finally dad said that we where there . I got out of the car and ran to the front steps of the breeders house and rang the doorbell. The breeder opened the door. The breeder talked a lot and finally she brought the dog.  It was an exciting day.

Today l was playing a video game and this reminded me about the time of 2010 when l  played FIFA Soccer ( also a video game ). On that day, my Dad was asking me, "Do you want to try a video game called FIFA?  It is a soccer video game." I thought it would be so hard so l said, "No".  But a few minutes later, l decided l was going to try the game to see if the game is easy or not easy. I selected to of my favorite teams called Manchester United and Real Madrid. I played the game and surprisingly it was really really easy. Since the first time I played FIFA it has been my most  favorite game ever!

When I went to Disney by MC

I was at the Themepark and it reminded me of when I went to Disney. My parents woke me up early I asked, "Why did you wake me up?" My parents told me we were going to Disney. I got really excited my eyes were literally popping out of my head as I got dressed as fast as I could. When I finished, I dove into the car and we went to the airport. After we got off the plane we went to the hotel, I went in our room before everyone else and I jumped on the bed and fell asleep.
The next day I woke and asked "Can we go to Disney now?" My mom said, "After we go to the pool." After we left the pool we went to Disney first we went on a spinning ride I remember I almost barfed.

When I Went Skateboarding With My Cousins by LT

I was looking at my Writer's Notebook and it made me remember when I was skateboarding with my cousin Kaitlin I was really good at skateboarding until I fell. It really hurt. I started crying and sat out for a little bit. I didn't like sitting out, but it did hurt so I did it anyway. I did learn how to skate and me and my cousin Kaitlin were having so much fun we never realized what time it was so we asked my mom. She said, "Three o'clock."  We couldn't believe we were skating for three hours. My mom asked if we wanted to stay or go. We said stay because we were having so much fun my mom was fine with that. We took a break and talked about how much fun we had. After we get back up and started. After my brother Eric went up a big hill and crashed after he got up he said, "That was fun," then we got ready to leave. I didn't want to leave but I was tired so I said ok.

When I Went to Hershey park by CN

My teacher said you can write about a vacation and that's what gave me this idea. I went on a rollercoster called the Wild Mouse and it was fun. I even saw how they made chocolate. I also went to do that driving car thing. I swam in the hotel with my cousin. I went on the skyride and it was fun. I also went on the bumper cars twice. Hershey park was very fun.

   Whenever I go past Jason's house it reminds me of the time I went to Jason's house. I did my homework there. I played Mario Kart on the Wii. It was my first time playing it was fun. I lost all the time.  We were playing with Wheels. It was very fun. Then we played Skylanders. I died once after using hot head then I used Slambam. Jason died a bunch of times. I saw the school from Jason's house. After that we played Beyblades. I won all the time other then. When I used the big Beyblade I said I will never go past the kitchen and I never went past Jason's kitchen. Then we had a Nurf gun fight then we had to leave I had fun.

     On September 8 I went to my neighbors pool party. Emma's dad made a barbecue.It was the best barbecue.I ate meat,corn and rice.For dessert I ate Icecrem and cake. I also got in Emma's hot tub.

When I went to Florida by AD

Last year I went to Florida I went on a plane it took really long.  But I watched the Avengers.  We got off the plane. We went to the airport we went through a metal detector then we got out and rented a car. Then we rented a hotel they had a GIANT POOL! We had a GIANT TV!The next day we went to DISNEY World!  We went on a lot of rides like a tree that you walk UP! Then we rode under spikes. We stopped at the hotel we went in the pool then we packed and left.

Harry Potter by MB

Today l was looking at my writers notebook and I saw a Harry Potter picture. It reminded me about the first time I read Harry Potter. I remember I was reading Magic Tree House and l finished  all the books so I ran to my mom and said I finished the magic tree house she was so proud for me then she said i'm ready for Harry Potter. I was so excited!!!! When I started it was so cool. I met Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Ron Weasly, Hagrid, and Malfoy and his friends Crab and Goule. You also meet the greatest wizard ever Albas Dumbledore.

Going To My Brother's Friend House by MW

Last summer my brother and I went to my brother's friend's house for a party. When we got there I thought it was going to be boring but it was not! There was a huge blow up slide!!! Of course I went on it it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ate some candy it was delicious. I ate alot of the candy. I also went in a pool and a hot tub. Boy the hot tub was HOT!!! But the pool was cool. Where the pool was there was a whirly slide and you can climb in either. I was the youngest there but I got to hang out with the big kids that were in high school. I pet their dog he was so CUTE!!!!! He is a wiener dog. When the dog was barking at the big kids I stopped him from barking. The water slide was freezing!! It was sooooooooo cold. I also watched tv. Some of the time we were there but the house was awesome. Did I say house, I mean party! I. Think the party was the greatest party EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Knicks Game by JB

    Two years ago when I was in first grade I went to a Knicks game. The New York Knicks were playing the Brooklyn Nets. I sat in the first row.I made a  prediction that the knicks would  win but the nets won. My suite is so nice I ate sushi it was good.Then these guys did flips  spins  and dunks they also bounced the ball and the other  guy dunked it. Then Idanced to cowboy joe. It was so fun I want to do it again.

My First Karate Tournament! by CA-P

I was practicing karate and it made me think of the first time I had a karate tournament. My tournament was at DAS Karate Academy. First we had to stretch. When I was stretching my heart was beating really fast. I did so good in sparring I got 8 points and I got the highest score in my age group. I'm a blue belt.When we started they called people up. As I was watching them I thought they did good. But I did better because when they announced the winner they said, "CA-P you win first place I was so happy!!!!

A SUPRISE FOR MIK

  One day I was playing on the playground I was play hesitation. I said the name "Lizzy" and it reminded me about the time my friend Lizzy.One day I was up in my room than my dad yelled out...   "MK, THERE'S A SURPRISE DOWN HERE FOR YOU."  Then I looked out my window... Then I dashed  down stairs and opened the door and ran outside with no shoes on and with my arms wide out than Lizzy yelled out, "MK!" Lizzy and I ran up in my room and talked about our summer until a guy named Mitchell and his sister came than I said "hi MC. Hi MC's sister."

Getting my New puppy!

 I am  so excited to go home because I know my puppy will be at the door scratching a wagging her tail. That's what made me think about getting her. I was not expecting to get a puppy a month ago after my other dog Rexx died. I was not the first person in my family to see her. My mom and grandma were. In second grade my mom and grandma picked me up from school and said they saw a really sweet puppy. The next day I finally got to see her she was so excited too. She tripped me but I was okay because I landed on the grass. Three days after my brother and dad wanted to see her so then day we saw her she was super excited she bit my dad's finger. Then it all led up to the day we got her. We brought her home in the car. We were talking about her name her real name was happy. So then we said her name was Maggie. When we got home she walked around our whole house she even sat near the door trying to get outside we let her out and played. I said to my mom, "I love Maggie and I always will."
